akari scarf

the noguchi museum, nyc

A custom scarf inspired by sculptor Isamu Noguchi’s Akari lamp. Sheer joy. The scarf’s luxe silk and modal fiber diffuses light like the mulberry paper of the iconic Akari lamp while the fine embroidery celebrates the bamboo reed structure. We are elated about this collab with Salvini. Noguchi's iconic Akari lights (bottom right) softly gleam like fishing lamps on Japan’s Nagara River at night—or so Noguchi said—and were named Akari, meaning light as illumination and, why not, hint at weightless freedom. [You know that, here at designorange, we love global color and light.] Bring it.
